Galataport

Project

Turkey's Maritime Organization (Türkiye Denizcilik İşletmeleri) plans to privatize the existing warehouses and depots along the coastline through a concession model. Following the winning bid of 702 million USD by the Doğuş Group in the Salıpazarı Port Tender held by the Privatization Administration on May 16, 2013, the Group formed a partnership with BLG Capital, a subsidiary of Bilgili Holding, in January 2014. With this partnership, Salıpazarı Port Management and Investments Inc. (Salıpazarı Liman İşletmeciliği ve Yatırımları A.Ş.) was established to develop and operate the area.

After the transfer agreement with Turkey's Maritime Enterprises A.Ş., the port area was taken over by this company in February 2014, and operations commenced. The company's name was changed to Galataport Istanbul Port Management and Investments Inc. as of February 2018.

Construction, which began in 2015, was completed in 2021, and the facility was opened to the public. With a 1.2 km shoreline along the Bosphorus, between Karaköy Pier and the building of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University's Fındıklı Campus, the project has an investment value of 1.7 billion USD. Galataport Istanbul is expected to host 7 million foreign and 25 million domestic visitors annually. Within the scope of the project, it is anticipated that approximately 1.5 million cruise passengers, including crew members, will visit Istanbul.

DURATEK's coating systems were applied at Galataport successfully by Gül Epoksi and Uzman Boya applicator dealers. The work, which began in 2019, was completed in 2022.

In total, the project included the coating of 143,000 m2 underground car park for 2,400 vehicles, the coating of 5,500 m2 of coastal walking areas, and the coating of 6,300 m2 of fire escape stairs.

The coatings applied in technical areas have antistatic properties. These coatings help discharge static electricity generated by electronic devices in these rooms, directing it to the building's grounding system. DURATEK ESD and conductive coatings were used on these surfaces.

Ramps were coated with a rough non-slip surface to prevent vehicles from skidding or slipping. This coating also performs well in areas where friction is highest.

The walls in various sections of Galataport were also protected by painting with DURATEK's water-based epoxy paint.
